Read It Forward, Jax! VPK

We are proud to partner with Duval County Public Schools and introduce to you Read It Forward, Jax! VPK- a bold and exciting reading initiative designed to ignite a love for reading and books in preschoolers. As a VPK provider, we would like to invite your child care center/home’s VPK classrooms to participate in this initiative.

The main goal is to encourage preschoolers to read, or be read to, as preparation for learning in elementary school. As a participant, each of your VPK classrooms will track the number of books read to the class during VPK, and, at home, families will track the books they read with their VPK students. Getting started is easy. Simply do the following:

1. Starting January 26 you or a staff member may come to ELC of Duval to pick up one classroom posters (1 per VPK classroom), parent reading contracts and tally sheets for each VPK child to take home and keep track of the books they read.

Please pick up all items by Friday, Feb. 10th.

2. Encourage families to participate in the program, return their reading contract to you and keep a tally of all of the books they read to their child(ren) at home. Families can simply track using a tally; the title does not have to be listed.

3. As a VPK provider, you can keep track of the books you read to the class on the classroom poster you receive at ELC of Duval. Contact us to see if extra posters are available if you fill up the ones provided.

4. Have families return their reading contracts and tally sheets to you by Friday, May 4th.

Then, you or a staff member MUST return the tally sheets, family contracts and classroom reading posters to ELC of Duval.

Please turn in all items by Monday, May 14th.

5. When your materials are returned to ELC of Duval, each teacher and director who participated in Read It Forward, Jax! VPK will receive a thank you gift, and each classroom will be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes.

Together, we can foster a passion for reading in Jacksonville’s youngest citizens!
